Conversations Between Artists #24

  • Think Coffee 248 Mercer Street (Front Upstairs) New York, NY, 10012 United States (map)

From Recess to Rehearsal:

Keeping a Sense of Play in your Work

Talking Points to be Conversed:

  • What is your favorite, most exciting and/or the most fun part about being an actor/playwright?

  • How do you de-stress when you start feeling burn-out?

  • How do you find fun in drama/tragedy/pain?

  • What helps you get through writing and/or acting in serious soul-wrenching plays?

  • How do you protect yourself while being vulnerable as a writer/actor?

  • How do you find fun in comedy/musical/farce?

  • What helps you get through rehearsal periods without audience members to laugh at the jokes?

  • How do you know if what you’ve written is funny?

  • How do you find fun when working alone— memorizing lines, writing, editing, brainstorming?

  • How do you find fun in survival jobs?  What tips get you through the day?

  • How do you find fun when working on a project you don’t like?  A character you don’t resonate with? A director that doesn’t communicate on the same wave length?  A producer or cast that doesn’t gel with your writing?

  • What is one easy thing you can do every day to help you stay positive, have fun, and live your best life?

This is our chance to talk with each other about topics that we as artists, creatives and humans need to have. The key is we talk to and with each other. There is no panel or special guest that is smarter on a topic. We are the collective smarter panel.
