OUR UNIQUE PLAY DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

The PG Evolution: a development process provides a home for playwrights to collaborate on early process work, with the goal of helping them understand their work better and earlier by bringing other supportive artists into the process sooner. Our emphasis on early stage work offers playwrights a unique way of getting insight and analysis on the play they are writing. As plays progress through our development process playwrights are asked to take their work out of their head and look at it from a more analytical, objective and honest prospective.

STEP 1: VOLUMES (TWICE MONTHLY)

Use the Join Us form to sign up for our mailing list and hear about our upcoming events. The first step in the process is our twice monthly Volumes where six playwrights will have short work sessions with actors and a public reading of 15 minutes of new material. Playwrights to be featured at Volumes are selected once a quarter. Find out about how the development process evolves below.

Step 2: Required Readings (QUARTERLY)

Plays are selected by our selection committee from those presented at various Volumes. Completed drafts are sent to participating attendees for reading and evaluation using The PG Evolution Play Analysis Questionnaire ©. We then gather for short discussion with readers and playwrights to go over feedback. Playwrights then have Thirty days to write a new draft for First Reads Festival.

Step 3: First Reads Festival (QUARTERLY)

After getting feedback from Required Reading and The PGE curation team. Each play will be read around a table with playwright in the presence of an audience. The audience and actors will fill out a second version of The PG Evolution Play Analysis Questionnaire ©.

Step 3A: First SINGS (When Needed)

If your play is a musical your First Reads focused on the book. This is full sing through of score. Usually happens 3-6 months after First Reads. The audience and actors will fill out a questionnaire to provide feedback to the playwright.

Step 4: Stage Experiments (On Hiatus)

Plays continue the development process by adding directors, rehearsal and a little time. Guests are requested to partake in a short moderated talkback based on questions provided prior to reading.

Step 5: SHop Works (On Hiatus)

Plays continue the development process by adding designers, directors, rehearsal and a little time. Guests are requested to partake in a short moderated talkback based on questions provided prior to reading.

THE PG Experience EVEnts

In addition to our development process, we also hold various events throughout the year to build our community and help them to continue with their artistic journeys together.

Faces of America Monologue Festival (Annual)

The Faces of America Monologue Festival was created in response to the inequality of opportunities available to marginalized communities. Started in November 2019, our aim is to collect unique, captivating and beautiful stories and share them so that we can all learn, grow and celebrate each other. Because this is about sharing, we use this festival as a way to raise funds for important causes such as ACLU and Black Lives Matter.

Voices of America Writers WOrkshop (Quarterly)

Created and taught by David Davila, the Voices of America Writers Workshop is an affordable eight-week workshop for people of color and members of the trans/nonbinary+ community who want to tell their own stories through play and screenwriting. The program was created in response to the inequality of opportunities available to marginalized communities. In this workshop writers use tools from creative writing, dramatic writing, and comedy writing/improv - focusing on idea generation, the art of dialogue, and story structure to create multi-dimensional characters and captivating narratives.

CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN ARTISTS (Bi-Monthly)

This is our chance to talk with each other about topics that we as artists, creatives and humans need to have. The key is we talk to and with each other. There is no panel or special guest that is smarter on a topic. We are the collective smarter panel.

DROP AND GIVE ME 10 “Fun”DRAISER (Quarterly)

The Anti-10 Minute Play Festival

1. Playwrights will be assigned PlayGround Experiment Actors and 5 writing prompts.
