Lyric Writing for Musical Theater
w/ Kit Goldstein Grant
This workshop will focus on the technical elements of lyric writing for musical theatre, including song structure, rhyme, scansion, and tips for working with composers. If you've ever wondered how to start writing lyrics for a musical, come learn the craft! Taught by lyricist/composer/librettist Kit Goldstein Grant, this class is a good introduction to musical theatre lyric writing for playwrights who would like to explore diving into the wonderful world of musical theatre! No musical experience necessary.
Kit Goldstein Grant is a prize-winning New York City-based composer, lyricist, librettist and teaching artist. She currently teaches with the New York City Children's Theater and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Her musicals have been seen in South Africa (THE NOSE, Artscape Theatre Centre; The Drama Factory; National Arts Festival) and in New York at Theatre Row (THE GIANT HOAX, Indieworks Theatre Co.), the Master Theater, the Midtown International Theater Festival, the Strawberry One-Act Festival (THE COMMUTERS), The Players Theatre (WHERE ANGELS FEAR TO TREAD), and Theatre for the New City (THE WRONG BOX). Five of her musicals for young audiences have toured schools with the Schenectady Theatre for Children, including IT’S RAINING TAMALES!, which is published by YouthPLAYS. Kit has studied at Juilliard and the Tony-Award winning BMI Musical Theatre Writing Workshop, and she is a member of The Dramatists Guild and ASCAP. www.kitgoldstein.com
